Another fresh and eye-capturing idea was launched by a British portrait and fashion photographer John Rankin. This time it applies to watch industry, namely to Swatch, a Swiss watch company making stylish and modern time pieces for youth. All Swatch watches are unique and original both female and male ones. But this one was an exclusive issue with a human eye in the centre of creation.
Rankin‘s watch created for Swatch uses an eccentric idea of putting a human eyeball into the dial. Sounds weird at first bur at a close-up examination the staring eyeball from a watch looks rather cute.
If you like unusual watches you can also take a look at weird watches list 1, part 2, part 3 some of them are really overdone.
A few words about Rankin himself tell us about his love of challenge and hate of ordinariness. His full name is John Rankin Waddell and he lives in North of London. He is a famous photographer, cinematographer and also a magazine founder, which is called “Dazed and Confused”. Through this magazine he tried to look into the consciousness of modern generation and take a deeper and intimate insight to people’s lives.
And this intimacy is mentioned in his new Swatch design, just taken to an extreme level. The idea is that we rarely look into one’s eye so closely. By framing the iris Rankin presents it with fascinating landscape and gives surreal complexity and colour. The watch design is eye-catching indeed and besides being eccentric it’s also highly skillful and beautifully depicted. Rare twists of genuine colours and waves of texture charm and mesmerise – and all this on the dial of a simple plastic watch.
Rankin Watches includes 8 models of which 5 are presented in the form of a watch set in their own special boxes (limited edition of 777 pieces).
